Voting in Person

Polling place:

Voter Photo ID requirements:
New Hampshire voters must show an approved photo ID to receive a ballot.
New Hampshire voters can present any one of the following documents to prove identity and receive a ballot:

  • Non-driver ID card issued by NH DMV or motor vehicle agency of another state
  • Photo ID card for “voting identification only” issued by NH DMV (RSA 260:21)
  • United States armed services identification card
  • United States passport or passcard
  • Verification of the voter’s identity by a moderator or other election official of the town who is not a ballot clerk.

If you do not present an approved photo ID and your identity is not verified by an election official, you will not be allowed to vote.

Voting by Absentee Ballot (Restricted)
By New Hampshire law, all residents who will be absent from the town during the hours the polls are open on election day, or residents with disabilities or illness, religious reasons, or work hours that keep them from getting to the polls, are eligible to vote absentee. "Disability" includes people with health circumstances who are advised by medical authorities to avoid going out in public. This includes voters with symptoms of a communicable disease or illness and those who, because of their own health circumstances, limit public exposure in their day-to-day life as a preventative measure. "Work hours" includes care of the infirm and children, whether paid or unpaid.

Absentee ballots are available from the town clerk approximately 30 days before an election. Request the absentee ballot application from the town clerk or download the application online up to 6 months before an election. You must request an absentee ballot for every election. If you wish, you may submit a request in writing that should include all the information required on the application: your name, voting address, mailing address and your signature.
An application for an absentee ballot may be returned in person or by mail, fax, or email to the town clerk, provided there is an actual (NOT electronic) signature.

When applying for an absentee ballot registered voters must verify their identity in one of these ways:

  • Include a copy of a qualifying photo ID with your application OR
  • Have your application notarized (electronic notarization is acceptable) OR
  • Present a qualifying photo ID in person to your town clerk before the ballot is issued.

The absentee voter registration form must be witnessed by another person. Both forms are to be returned to the town clerk.
